Overview
Not every practice wants to place a binding order right away, some want to know what the work will cost first. That is what the cost estimate is for in Crownbeam: the practice requests one in the order wizard instead of ordering directly, and the lab creates it and uploads it. One click turns the finished cost estimate into a real order.
This article is written for both practices (requesting a cost estimate) and labs (creating a cost estimate and turning it into an order).
How the practice requests a cost estimate
The practice requests a cost estimate directly in the regular order wizard, there is no separate route for it.
Create the order as usual: enter the patient, configure the indication, upload the data.
In the summary, do not click Order now. Instead use the three-dot icon and click Request CE (cost estimate).
The order then moves to the CE Requested status and is not a binding order yet.
Note: CE Requested is one of the regular order statuses in Crownbeam. You can read more about all statuses in Understand and change order status.
How you create the cost estimate as a lab
As soon as an order has the CE Requested status, you create the cost estimate directly in the order.
Open the order with the CE Requested status.
Click on the order menu (three-dot icon) in the top right and select Create CE (cost estimate).
The status then changes automatically to CE Created.
What the practice sees afterwards
As soon as the status changes to CE Created, the practice sees the cost estimate in the order under Files. They can view the document there and turn it into a real order right away via Order now, without entering the details again.
FAQs
Is a cost estimate already a binding order?
No. As long as an order sits in the CE Requested or CE Created status, it is not a binding order yet. It only becomes a regular order once the practice clicks Order now.
As a practice, how do I request a cost estimate instead of ordering directly?
Create the order as usual and, in the summary, use the order menu (three-dot icon) to click Request CE instead of Order now.
How does the lab create the cost estimate in Crownbeam?
In the order with the CE Requested status, the lab clicks on the order menu (three-dot) icon in the top right and selects Create CE. The status then changes automatically to CE Created.
