Overview
Connect 3Shape Communicate with Crownbeam so you can retrieve 3Shape orders directly in Crownbeam, without having to switch over to 3Shape Communicate.
Important: You need a 3Shape Communicate lab account (dental lab profile) to set up this integration. If you connect a practice account instead, the connection will be established, but no scans will be transferred to Crownbeam.
How to set up the 3Shape Communicate integration
Open the Settings via the gear icon in the top right.
Navigate to Integrations on the left.
Select 3Shape and click Pair with 3Shape.
Log in with your 3Shape Communicate account.
Choose which data sets Crownbeam should download.
Set how Crownbeam should handle scans without an order form.
Decide whether automatic assignment of scanner users should be enabled or disabled.
Success: If automatic assignment of scanner users is enabled, Crownbeam remembers which practice belongs to which scanner user after the first manual match.
From then on, orders are automatically assigned to the user and no longer load into the Inbox — instead, they're shown directly as ordered orders.
Note: Automatic assignment of scanner users automatically assigns incoming scanner orders to the matching practice — not to a technician at the lab. Technician assignment happens separately, via tasks within the order.
Choosing data sets
You can specify which file formats Crownbeam should download from 3Shape Communicate:
STL
PLY
DCM
Note: STL and PLY can be displayed directly in Crownbeam. DCM is a proprietary 3Shape format. It can be downloaded, but not displayed directly in Crownbeam.
Setting up scans without an order form
If you use 3Shape Dental System at the lab, a specific situation can occur: work created at the lab gets sent to Crownbeam through the integration as newly created orders. You can recognize these orders because they don't show the typical 3Shape case sheet.
For these orders, you can set whether Crownbeam should:
ignore them
treat them like regular orders
load them into the Inbox, so you can decide individually for each order

Do I need to log in to 3Shape Communicate for the connection?
Yes. To connect, you log in with your 3Shape Communicate account.
Which file formats can Crownbeam display directly?
STL and PLY can be displayed directly in Crownbeam. DCM can be downloaded, but not displayed directly.
What are scans without an order form?
These are orders that don't come from a practice order, but are triggered, for example, by work done in the 3Shape CAD Design software at the lab.
Does automatic assignment of scanner users also assign technicians?
No — automatic assignment of scanner users automatically assigns incoming scanner orders to the matching practice, not to a technician at the lab. Assignment to a technician happens separately, via tasks within the relevant order.
Do I need to delete the old matches if I turn off automatic assignment of scanner users?
No, you don't. Existing matchings stay saved even after you disable the setting — no new ones are added. If you want to remove the saved matchings completely, use the Delete user matchings button in the integration settings.
Careful: The button deletes all saved mappings between scanner users and Crownbeam practices, not just a single one. After that, future scans have to be assigned manually in the Inbox again.
