Overview
This article shows you how to set up the DS Core integration in Crownbeam and choose which scan files should be downloaded.
Important: You need a dental lab profile with DS Core to set up this integration.
How to set up the DS Core integration
Open the Settings via the gear icon in the top right.
Click Integrations on the left.
Select DS Core.
Under Region, select the location of your DS Core account from the dropdown — for example United States.
Click Pair with DS Core.
In the portal that opens, log in with your DS Core lab account and authorize access.
Under Scan File Type, choose which file formats Crownbeam should download.
Decide whether automatic assignment of scanner users should be enabled or disabled.
Success: If automatic assignment of scanner users is enabled, Crownbeam remembers which practice belongs to which scanner user after the first manual match.
From then on, orders are automatically assigned to the user and no longer load into the Inbox — instead, they're shown directly as ordered orders.
Tip: Open file formats like STL and PLY can be displayed directly in Crownbeam. Proprietary formats like DXD or Exocad can be downloaded, but not displayed directly.
Note: Depending on the practice's setup, DS Core delivers scan data in different formats. If, alongside the main scanner, another device — for example a TRIOS scanner — is also connected to DS Core, the preferred format sometimes can't be provided. Crownbeam detects this and automatically switches to an available format, so the data reliably arrives with the order. The format actually delivered can therefore differ from the setting in Crownbeam in individual cases.
FAQs
Which DS Core account do I need for the integration?
You need a DS Core account for dental labs. Practice accounts can't be connected to Crownbeam.
What happens after clicking Pair with DS Core?
This starts the connection to DS Core. You then log in with your DS Core lab account and authorize access.
What does automatic assignment of scanner users do?
When this feature is enabled, Crownbeam remembers which practice belongs to which scanner user after the first manual match.
Does automatic assignment of scanner users also assign technicians?
No — automatic assignment of scanner users automatically assigns incoming scanner orders to the matching practice, not to a technician at the lab. Assignment to a technician happens separately, via tasks within the relevant order.
Do I need to delete the old matches if I turn off automatic assignment of scanner users?
No, you don't. Existing matchings stay saved even after you disable the setting — no new ones are added. If you want to remove the saved matchings completely, use the Delete user matchings button in the integration settings.
Careful: The button deletes all saved mappings between scanner users and Crownbeam practices, not just a single one. After that, future scans have to be assigned manually in the Inbox again.
Which scan files can Crownbeam display directly?
Open file formats like STL and PLY can be displayed directly in Crownbeam. Proprietary formats like DXD, DCM, or Exocad can't.
Why does a different file format sometimes arrive than the one I set?
This is due to the practice's configuration. If, alongside the main scanner, another device — for example a TRIOS scanner — is also connected to DS Core there, the preferred format can't always be provided in that setup. In this case, Crownbeam leaves the decision of which format is delivered to DS Core. You don't need to do anything — the format arrives automatically. If you regularly need a specific format, it's worth checking with the practice which devices are linked in their DS Core account.
